From theater compositions to film scores to late night jam sessions, Dan Clingman has made his mark on arts scenes since the late 1990s.
While Dan’s big personality, lyrical intellect and ability to play more than a couple instruments wows live music lovers around town, Dan’s brilliance lies in his orchestral compositions and sound designs. Working with big-name clients such as Shedd Aquarium, Noble Fool Theatricals, and Loyola University, Dan has created musical arrangements that are rich in intricacies, dramatic and simply enchanting.
His secret ingredient stems from a 13-year career as a professional ballet dancer with the Grand Rapids Ballet. Dancing to the delightful music of The Nutcracker, or the intense Romeo and Juliet score, Dan has an intimate connection with the relationship between music and visual presentation.
Bringing the magic to stories with music is his passion.
Dan has been credited with many plays in Chicago as Original Music Composer, has a few films, some museum theater installations and one spectacular event for the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, having written the score for the Grand Opening celebration and parade of the The Wild Reef: Sharks at Shedd which opened in 2003. The Chicago Sun-Times reporting on the event started with the phrase,
"With triumphant music, 45 foot shark puppets, and native Philippine dancers..."
This accolade itself points to the power of using music to present a story; a gift that Daniel has. Please enjoy the music here, let it tell it's own stories.
